Judge in London decides whether Craig Wright (Faketoshi) is Satoshi Nakamoto

Last Updated on 6 February 2024 by CryptoTips.eu

Ever since the first Genesis block of Bitcoin was mined, everyone who has ever bought crypto has wondered who Satoshi Nakamoto, the anonymous inventor of the largest digital currency, actually is. A judge in London must decide this week who it is certainly not. The internet is rooting for anonymity over Craig Wright

Faketoshi

Australian businessman Craig Wright has been claiming for years that he is Satoshi Nakamoto, the anonymous inventor of Bitcoin. He is in favor of Bitcoin SV (or Bitcoin Satoshi’s Vision), an offshoot of Bitcoin that emerged from a hard fork.

Some well-known figures, such as Vitalik Buterin (founder of Ether) and Jack Dorsey (the former CEO of Twitter) have since taken him to court over these statements. His nickname is now Faketoshi.

Oh yes, before you wonder why he doesn’t just cash out the first 1 million Bitcoins, Craig claimed in a Norwegian court case back in 2022 that he destroyed the hard drive containing the wallet for those Bitcoins. The value of that destroyed hard drive would now be around $830 billion.

This time, Wright is being taken to court by the Crypto Open Patent Alliance (Copa), a group of companies (including Block and Coinbase) that want to determine once and for all that Wright is not Satoshi and that he does not hold copyright or patent over the Bitcoin White Paper.

According to Wright, he owns the right to the Bitcoin White Paper and can therefore only decide whether a certain application can be distributed.

The 53-year-old businessman will be questioned by a London judge as from today. The case should normally take about a month.
